Combined Single Deductible
A combined single deductible helps simplify your out-of-pocket costs after a covered event. It's automatically included on your Progressive Commercial auto policy when you purchase comprehensive or collision coverage. Instead of paying multiple deductibles for the same incident, you'd be responsible for the highest one that applies. We cover the rest, up to your policy limits.
As the #1 truck insurer in America,Δ we combine industry expertise with coverage designed for trucking businesses. When you get a policy with us, our experts can help you understand your coverage and support you through a claim.
Deductibles explained
A deductible is the amount you agree to pay when you have a claim. If you have a tractor and a trailer on your policy, you'll need to select deductibles for each of them.
A combined single deductible applies to physical damage coverage, which may include comprehensive, collision, fire and theft with combined additional coverage, and motor truck cargo coverage.
What is a combined single deductible?
A combined single deductible is a free feature that you receive with Progressive Commercial auto insurance. It can apply when:
- Your tractor and trailer are both affected by the same accident
- Multiple vehicles on your policy are damaged in a single event, like a hurricane
- More than one type of coverage is involved in the same loss, such as physical damage and motor truck cargo
In these cases, the combined single deductible means you pay only the highest deductible instead of multiple ones. Because you don't have to cover each deductible separately, you save money.
Combined single deductible endorsement example
Your tractor and trailer flip over during an accident, damaging the tractor, trailer, and cargo you’re transporting on a for-hire basis. Your policy includes a $1,000 deductible for collision coverage on the tractor, a $500 deductible for collision coverage on the trailer, and a $1,000 deductible for motor truck cargo coverage.
Without a combined single deductible
- You'd pay each deductible separately
- Out-of-pocket costs could reach $2,500 before insurance kicks in
With a combined single deductible
- You'd only pay the highest deductible of $1,000
- One deductible covers the tractor, trailer, and cargo from the same accident
- Insurance pays the rest, up to your vehicle and cargo limits
Who needs a combined single deductible?
A combined single deductible can benefit many types of trucking businesses, especially those with multiple vehicles, trailers, or coverages on the same policy, such as:
- Owner operators
- Specialty truckers, like logging or dirt, sand, and gravel haulers
- Motor carriers
